Background:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science began with a UN resolution in 2015. The Day, on February 11th, aims to amplify the critical role that women and girls can and do play in science and technology. Its mission is to address the gender gap in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. 11 February 2023 marks the ninth celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science.<\/p>\n

International Women’s Day, dated on 8 March, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. It has occurred for well over a century.<\/p>\n

FEC Dialogue with Female Scientists:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Future Earth Coasts celebrate these days by launching the interview series \u2018FEC Dialogue with Female Scientists\u2019. We invited female scientists at different career stages around the globe to share their stories and reflect on challenges and opportunities they encountered in their career paths. Stories from the interviewees are a snapshot of the current situation. We learnt not only their passion and dedication to coastal research, but also realized existing barriers in promoting gender equity and the necessary to make women’s voices heard in the world.<\/p>\n

Their scientific work paved the way for young girls who want to engage in STEM to build a fairer and more equal future. We want to inspire young women to bravely pursue their professional career paths.<\/p>\n
