These may be characterised loosely according to \u2018Three Ps\u2019: Practical, those taking an\u00a0anthropocentric approach; Pure, those taking an ecocentric approach and Popular, those appealing to the\u00a0general public.<\/p>\n<p>In this paper I use these three perspectives as a tool to analyse the complexity and identify\u00a0contradictions in European aquatic environmental legislation.
